Some funk fans over at the Burningman Tribe are looking for the Church of Funk and wondering if they'll be at Burningman this year. I haven't been since 2003, so I'm a bit out of the loop. I'd appreciate any info.... gotta get my funk on!

"The End of the Universe is very popular, people like to dress up for it, Gives it a sense of occasion." - Douglas Adams

*****************

WHAT: Apocalypse!
WHAT: Fandango's End-of-the-World Party
WHERE: The P*rn Palace, 415 Jesse St., San Francisco
WHEN: Saturday, July 14, 2007, 9pm-2am
WHO: The Friends, and Friends-of-Friends, of Fandango.
COST: $10 to $20 in advance, sliding scale. ($20 at the door.)
WHY: Fundraiser for Fandango Village infrastructure at Burning Man
(Bars, Trucks, Booze, Trash, Furnishings, Booze, Lumber, Trash)

****************

RSVP & PAYPAL: fandangoparty@gmail.com

****************

How is the World going to End? Will it be the seemingly-inevitable Zombie apocalypse? Will we all fight each other to the death over a few precious drops of gasoline? Will the world snuff it in a Biblical plague of locusts and Hellfire? Will the toxic sludge of our corporate paymasters give rise to a new brand of avenger? Or will we all have to sprout gills after the ice caps melt, leaving us with nothing but a horrible, watery-world?

We don't know, but we hope you'll help us figure it out at Apocalypse!, Fandango's 2007 Fundraiser. Two different dance floors will feature Fandango's Apocalypse DJs, playing everything from deep funk to deep disco to deep trance. You have limited time, so make good use of
it on the dancefloor.

--------------------------------------------------

Some logistical hoo-hah: We're splitting the take with our hosts at the PP this year, so they'll be keeping the funds from the bar, and we'll be keeping the funds from the door. The downside of this is, woe, we have to charge for drinks. The upside is that we're going to be fully licensed, and don't have to worry so much about having a pre-sale guest-list. That said, please buy your tickets in advance, so we can pay for things like janitors and security. (Because, really, who wants to tidy up after the Apocalypse?) Also...we'll do a host-bar for the first hour of the event for those who paid in advance. (We're all in this together!) Please feel free to invite all your friends.

We hope to see you there!

Fandango

"Is the world ending because of God? The Devil? Or is it something YOU did?"

Fashion Show

Looking for clothing designers who are going to Burningman this year, who would like to submit a small collection for a fashion show at Burningman. Any designers, who wish to participate, will be expected to attend all meetings during the summer, have ideas/sketches and garments due at proposed dates, and be willing to help out before/during/ and after the show. Example: finding models, creative ideas in terms of choreography and music, set up/clean up and distributing flyers, finding volunteers to do make up ect. We have the space/camp. The theme will be that of this years burn, but with our own creative interest. The ideal time of the show will be later in the week during the mid afternoon (so we have natural lighting, less to worry about) but will not be a guarantee
, until enough designers have agreed to take on this project. Email me with any questions.
Thank you
ROSIN COVEN
"Imagine, if you will, the raw sexiness of cabaret complemented by moth-eaten aesthetic flourishes -- the operatic purring of a lead chanteuse named Midnight Rose, a gloomy bass jokily overlaid with a whiny vibraphone, and the ominous enchantment of commedia dell'arte puppetry. Naturally, we're describing Rosin Coven, the self-titled "World's Premiere Pagan Lounge Ensemble," the kind of act that has genre dogmatists scratching their heads. An umpteen-piece band full of pale-faced, velvet-clad cool cats playing everything from cello and contrabass to accordion, the group falls on a continuum between Rocky Horror camp and medieval danse macabre. The members of Rosin Coven, a Berkeley-based troupe with a vigorous following, look and sound like well-traveled carnies with formidable heaps of classical training; the roguish ensemble is even easy on the eyes."
BARBEZ
"As for Barbez's "Strange", wow, I'm not even ready to talk about it yet. One wants to say "Lynchian." The first thing you'll notice is the voice, that otherwordly and wonderfully overstated quality like Antony and the Johnsons, and as with Antony, I'm stuck in the "you just gotta hear this" phase. According to their one-sheet, they're a multi-culti ensemble named for an equally polyglot neighborhood in Paris. Their membership includes a theremin virtuoso, a Russian dancer, and a modified Palm Pilot player. Bob Moog wears a Barbez t-shirt through much of the documentary about him. The operatic peaks are chilling and sublime, a little frightening as well. I feel as if this music may be doing unnatural things in my brain without me realizing it, like acid that takes too long to kick in - you keep eating more and suddenly, you're a gibbering lunatic." -Moistworks

Through ingeneous manipulation and torture devices and many baguettes - ZRS learned the musical secrets of Parisian swing in the 1930's.... It has been decided by the council that NOW is time to re-enter the Earth's atmopsphere and bestow their musical and artistic findings on the glorious Earth masses...."

Shade improvement ideas

So my shade structure needs some slight modifications to increase the liklihood it will stay standing for the entire event, even through windstorms, but I have pretty clear direction on that.

It also needs better side shade. I'm thinking the material used for the BFT would work quite nicely. Anybody know what that material is or where I can get it? An Army-Navy store, perhaps? Any words of advice on its durability?

Here is where I don't really know where to start. It needs lighting. Lighting is a must for atmosphere and a definite should for safety. But how do I power them? I know next to nothing about electricity and what kind of power I need for what kind of lights and how much light they will produce. I can't be spending thousands of dollars here, but I'd like something durable and aesthetically pleasing. Solar would be fantabulous. Any ideas?

the approximate whereabouts of my domicile is targeted @9:30 between venus and earth [look for a smallish, tan cardboard geodesic less-than-half dome that looks like it has been henna tatted]... should be a cozy chill space with a nice hookah inside~ come and visit

Public? Moderated? Private?

For debate: Should Fandango be changed to a Moderated, or even a Private (new option) tribe?

Pros? Cons? Opinions?

I'm torn between Moderated and Private. Moderated is more in line with Fandango's playa attitude: "We may not know you, but you're welcome to camp with us. Please stay for as long as you don't suck."

But Private makes us and our in-jokes invisible to the great unwashed hordes, which appeals to the elitist xenophobe in me.

I think most of the events and activities above are pretty self explanatory, so I'll let them be, but I'll go into a little more details on what I know about the Services and "How you can Contribute" here. As usual, please let me know if I've forgotten anything.

Services
=======
a. Morning Ice Gnome Runs: At some point every morning (ish), our very own Ice Gnome, G-Sus, will be making runs in the beautiful Jungle! Art car (with matching trailer) to buy ice. See him and provide him with the cold, hard currency if you want cold, hard, water.

b. Showers: Chad and Steph are bringing their wonderful showers out to the playa again. All you need is water and a solar shower (or dromedary) to hang up.

c. Anarchist Kitchen: Butterzone will be providing their wonderful kitchen for general fandango use, just bring a bottle of fuel for the stove. There will be 12' of table space containing an industrial stove and a normal campstove or three, plus a sink to wash your dishes in. Ray writes: "I should have the sink setup too if people bring their own water they are welcome to it. Ill have cookware and stuff but i think people would be wise to bring their own." Just don't leave your crap there!

d. DJ setup ???
Moderatorship

I was going to post that I certainly don't mind moderating the Tribe, but especially being new on the Fandango scene, relative to many or most, I don't mind at all passing it along to someone else. Then I realized I can't. Or at least I can't figure out how to. I also can't seem to edit or change photo captions, or delete them. (If someone else can figure out how, please let me know, and be gentle when you tell me that I'm a dumbass. :)

Anyhow, please let me know if there are any changes or additions you'd like to see. I will accomodate as best I can.
